Matt Rothschild
Perspective (Hour 2)
Matt Rothschild joins us as our regular Wednesday guest. A woman's perspective. The most recent poll from the Harvard Kennedy School's Institute of Politics shows that young voters are ready and excited to vote for Kamala Harris. Harris holds a particular edge with young women, with a 47% margin lead over Trump. No surprise there. Still, those numbers give us a lot of optimism! Next, we address a response to Trump's comments yesterday about being a "protector" of women, insisting that women will "no longer be thinking about abortion". Producer Jess delivers a dramatic reading of Alexandra Petri's (Washington Post) satirical piece, "It is so much nicer to be a woman in Trump's world".
We wrap the show with a discussion of Biden's farewell address to the UN yesterday. President Biden spoke with clarity, compassion, and grace, showing true leadership perspective on the challenges this world faces.

Let’s be specific (Hour 1)
We hear and read frequent complaints that Kamala Harris doesn't provide specifics when it comes to policy. Well, today, Harris laid out detailed and specific economic policy in Pittsburgh. In contrast, her opponent's proposed policy... well... lacks all substance. Tune in for our highlights with our regular guest, Matt Rothschild.
In the bottom of the hour, we address the disparate ways the media (sometimes ourselves included) cover Trump and Harris. Harris too often receives criticism for lack of content. And Trump far too often benefits from significant sanewashing of his absolutely inane speech and behavior. We're trying to do better.

How do we want to be? (Hour 1)
Matt Rothschild joins Dom for both hours today. He starts off sharing his history with Wisconsin politics, starting with his time at The Progressive and The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. Matt and Dom talk about how Wisconsin's new legislative maps will help bring balance.
Matt and Dom review the lie popularized and spread that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are eating pets. Vance calls for the media to fact check the claims from Springfield, and then immediately rejects the fact-checking. Haitian Americans are speaking out about the effects of these lies on their community. Matt recommends us all check out books by Edwidge Danticat, a Haitian-American writer.

There’s no comparison, but let’s contrast these two (Hour 2)
Matt Rothschild joins Dom to chop up the debate. And wow is there a lot to chop. We start the hour by addressing one of the most shocking 3 minutes of the debate as Trump refused to share *any* regrets about his actions on January 6th, 2021. Then we compare the two candidate's responses to questions on foreign policy, specifically addressing the Israel-Hamas war. Listen to what Trump says. Listen to how he says it. And listen to how Harris responded with grace, composure, and certainty. There's no comparison.

Wow that debate was a rush! (Hour 1)
Y'all, that debate was fun to watch at times. Horribly infuriating and devastating at times- and so, so gratifying at others. We check in with Maggie Daun, Harvey Kaye, Matt Rothschild, and a whole host of friends on the phone about their reflections on the debate. We all saw a hell of a show from the two candidates and we're taking a day- just one- to revel in how Donald Trump made a complete ass of himself in front of dozens of millions of people.

Labor and the environment- y’know, easy topics (Hour 2)
Matt Rothschild continues hosting in Maggie's stead, joined by Angela Lang. They pick up the conversation begun by Maggie with Kaitlyn Henderson on the best and worst states in which to work. Beyond ensuring that laborers are fairly compensated for their work, we're concerned with safety and wellness in the rest of our lives.

“We the People” means all of us (Hour 1)
Matt Rothschild in the host seat today for Maggie. Joining Matt is Angela Lang, executive director of Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC) and current vice president of the board for ACLU Wisconsin. She and Matt address pressing needs facing our democracy, such as increasing voter access. A staggering percentage of our population cannot fulfill their civic right and responsibility to vote because they have felony records. In Wisconsin, a felony record does not prevent a citizen from voting- only an active sentence. But it's complicated, and many people are dissuaded from attempting to vote.
For the third segment, Peter Barca joins the duo to talk about why he's running to represent Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District again. Peter has a long history of representing Wisconsin and fighting for his constituents' rights. He's looking forward to getting back to his favorite work, moving Wisconsin forward.

Talking the talk, walking the walk, doing the work.(Hour 2)
Matt Rothschild guest hosts for Maggie today as she recovers from the DNC. For four days, we've been reveling in the excitement for the newly formed Democratic Presidential ticket. That enthusiasm is due. AND, now it's time to focus on the down-ballot. In that spirit, two down-ballot candidates join us this hour.
Christian Phelps, Democratic candidate for Wisconsin's 93rd Assembly seat. He chose to enter the political game to bring true representation of the region he knows has not had true legislative choice for too long. With new maps, it's time for change.
Dr. Kristin Lyerly is a board certified OB/GYN. And, she's running for Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District as a Democrat. Dr. Lyerly shares the energy she felt at the DNC. Now, she's ready to take action on her platform of compassionate care for all.
