WAUTOMA, Wis. (WAUH)- The 28-year-old Wolf River man suspected of killing his parents in their Wolf River home was sentenced Friday morning to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Erik Metzig was charged with the March 2023 murders of 72-year-old David and 71-year-old Jan Metzig. His parents were owners of the Union Star Cheese Factory.

During a hearing in Winnebago County Court in August, Judge Michael Gibbs found Erik Metzig made no-contest pleas to both counts of first-degree intentional homicide in August of last year “Knowingly, voluntarily, and intelligently.” The court also found alleged new evidence not credible, and denied a motion to withdraw the pleas.

Metzig claimed he had been the victim of sexual abuse and that is the reason he killed his parents. They were found dead of gunshot wounds during a welfare check. Erik Metzig was living with his parents at the time of the shooting.
