RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies pursued a speeding vehicle on Interstate 41 early this morning until it became unsafe to do so.

It started just after 12:30 am when a Sheriff’s deputy saw a northbound vehicle estimated to be speeding in excess of 140 miles an hour. Another deputy picked up pursuit near Johnson Street in Fond du Lac. At one point the suspect vehicle passed another motorist on the shoulder and struck a construction barrel.

Due to the active construction zone and safety concerns for workers on the roadway near Lincoln Road on I-41 the pursuit was terminated. The suspect’s vehicle continued traveling north into Winnebago County. The pursuit covered 15 miles.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as being a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta, silver in color, with Georgia registration. No vehicles or property was damaged during the pursuit.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the State Patrol.
