High school spring sports playoffs going strong

Spring sports going strong with playoffs underway. Baseball and soccer playoffs are set and Rafters games are rolling.

Raiders, Royals to play for Regional titles

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WFHR/WIRI) – The Assumption and Wisconsin Rapids Softball teams will battle for their respective regional titles on Thursday, May 29.

The Raiders will host Chippewa Falls in Division 1 while the Royals will take on Auburndale in Division 4.

Rapids beat River Falls 11-1, while Assumption beat Markesan 10-0 via a no-hitter by Macy Vollert.

Nekoosa came up short in their quest as they fell to Prescott 9-1 on May 27, while Port Edwards saw its season end on May 23 in a 16-12 defeat to Alma Center Lincoln.

Baseball playoffs begin Thursday

The playoffs begin on Thursday, May 29 for Divisions 2-4 and there will be home games for a couple of local teams.

In Division 4 Assumption was seeded No. 7 with Port Edwards being seeded No. 6..

The Royals host Marion with Port hosting Sevastopol.Nekoosa, playing in Division 3, has earned the No. 12 seed and will play at Bangor.

In Division 1, Wisconsin Rapids was slated with the No. 10 seed in its bracket and will play at No. 7 seeded River Falls on Tuesday, June 3.

Soccer playoffs set

Assumption and Wisconsin Rapids Girls Soccer have their playoff fates decided as the playoffs are set to begin on Tuesday, June 3.

The Rapids were seeded No. 6 in their Division 1 Sectional and will play at No. 3 Wausau West on the third.

Assumption earned a No. 1 seed in its sectional, and they will face either Richland Center or Mauston. The Regional Final is on June 7.

Rafters open season

The Northwoods League Baseball season is underway and the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters got things rolling.

Rapids fell to the Green Bay Rockers twice with scores of 6-1 and 13-1. The Rafters beat the Wausau Woodchucks by a score of 13-11.

Over the next week, Rapids will play Wausau, Rockfort, Lakeshore, and Fond du Lac.
