Battling Trumpism: Uniting Against the Storm (Hour 1)

November 22, 2024

This episode dives deep into the political landscape as host Matt Rothschild, filling in for Maggie Daun, discusses the rise of Trumpism and its implications with guests Angela Lang and Bill Fletcher, Jr. Angela Lang, from Black Leaders Organizing for Communities, shares insights on grassroots efforts to combat political exhaustion and misinformation in Wisconsin. Bill Fletcher Jr., a prominent left-wing intellectual, highlights the multifaceted roots of Trump's support, emphasizing the blend of economic discontent and deep-seated racism fueling the MAGA movement. He calls for a united front to resist fascist tendencies, urging both defensive actions, like protecting migrant communities, and offensive strategies, such as leveraging environmental issues to rally opposition. The episode also touches on local political dynamics, including upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court races and efforts to increase voter engagement post-election. With an eye on organizing and mobilizing communities, the conversation stresses the importance of solidarity and strategic resistance in facing the challenges posed by Trump's potential policies and the broader far-right agenda. This is the Dream Team? C’mon Man! (Hour 2)

November 20, 2024

Matt Rothschild cohosting with Dom today. They dig into Trump's Cabinet picks. On Tuesday, Massachusetts Representative Jim McGovern delivered a scathing screed against his "Republican friends" who plan to obey Trump in this new administration. Some Republicans are currently signaling they won't be in lockstep with Trump. Like Nikki Haley, who let loose with her criticism of Trump's Cabinet picks. Seriously, Representative McGovern put it best, these nominations are beyond insane!

Character Really Ought to Matter (Hour 1)

November 20, 2024

Matt Rothschild cohosts with Dom today. First, a survey of Trump's nominations for Cabinet. This shouldn't be surprising, but it's still rattling: four of his nominations so far are accused of sexual abuse.

Earl Ingram joins us for a segment to talk about the role racism played in the 2024 Presidential election. He sees this election as a serious rollback of social progress. And he's right. The incoming administration promises to oppose every effort to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Do we have to hit rock bottom to recover? (Hour 2)

November 13, 2024

In today's second hour, Matt Rothschild sticks with Dom to cover the rest of Donald Trump's cabinet nominations that we know so far. Also, even though Trump hasn't started his second term, he's hinting to House Republicans that he may run for a third. Shocker. It's almost like he told us that this was exactly the kind of nonsense he'd try to pull. All of this chaos begs the question: can we build back to a functional democracy without allowing Trump to enact Project 2025? Is it possible to shake sense back into America while bypassing the likely bloodshed, be it metaphorical or literal? These are questions we don't yet have the answers to.

Introducing Trump’s clown show cabinet (Hour 1)

November 13, 2024

Our friend Matt Rothschild joins Dom today to break some news: Matt Gaetz has been nominated as Trump's Attorney General pick! He is only the latest unserious pick for a position he is wholly unqualified for.

At the bottom of the hour, Dr. Tim Slekar of BustED Pencils joins us to talk about what the future may look like without the Department of Education. Education is the bedrock of democracy, and if the Trump administration manages to cripple or eliminate this department, the consequences may be dire.

Now we get back up. And we do the work. (Hour 2)

November 6, 2024

As Kamala Harris said in her concession speech today: The fight for our country is always worth it. Always. With cohost Matt Rothschild, we continue to make space for our experiences. We're all feeling a lot right now. We take the time to listen to Harris' full concession speech. In it, she shares a message of hope. Of continuing the good fight. A message of resilience and perseverance. In conceding, she presents a graceful, defiant, healing presence. And she is all of those things.

Matt brings us some wisdom from Tim Snyder's pamphlet On Tyranny. You can read a shortened version of the entire pamphlet here.

Now What? (Hour 1)

November 6, 2024

Today, we sit with strong feelings. Once more, Donald Trump has won the presidency. We're all processing that together. In this first hour, with Matt Rothschild as co-host, we make space for everyone to share what they are experiencing. These days will be difficult. The next four years will challenge our republic. We will not face those challenges alone.

Democracy- it’s on the ballot (Hour 2)

October 30, 2024

Wisconsin State Rep Francesca Hong joins Dom and Matt to talk about the local issues on the ballot next week. In these final days leading up to the election, many of us feel uneasy and overwhelmed. Representative Hong encourages us to use that energy and *do something*. Call and text your loved ones, make a plan to vote, and do what you can to protect our democracy.

In breaking news today, SCOTUS ruled today in favor of systemic voter purging in Virginia. Today's news also brings more fallout from the Madison Square Garden rally from Trump. More Republicans attempt to distance themselves from Trump as Nikki Haley berates the party for the rally. And, well Biden stuck his foot in his mouth.

A more hopeful closing argument(Hour 1)

October 30, 2024

Kamala Harris delivered her closing arguments for why voters should choose her as the next President of the United States. She chose the Ellipse in Washington, DC for this address. You may recall that this is the same spot where, nearly four years ago, Donald Trump used his pulpit to incite a violent mob to attack the Capitol. Harris' closing remarks differ widely from Trump's this past Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Rather than a message stewed in hatred, fear, and divisiveness, Harris shared her plan to lead and unite this country.

Greg Palast, investigative reporter and lawyer, joins Dom and Matt to talk about voter suppression. Greg's new film, Vigilantes Inc, explores the explosion of highly organized non-governmental voter suppression efforts in America over the past years.
