Jimmie Kaska
Wisconsin Schools: Partnerships and Playoffs (Hour 2)
Jimmie Kaska, Sports Director for Civic Media, guest hosts today. In this hour, it's all about schools and sports in Wisconsin.
First, Jimmie talks with Dr. Jamie Nutter, District 3 Administrator for Cooperative Education Services Agency- CESA 3. CESA seeks creative partnerships among schools and between schools and businesses to meet the needs of each school with the resources surrounding it. After a year of record-setting school referenda, both in terms of money sought and money approved, Jimmie asks Dr. Nutter: What can we be doing proactively to meet schools' needs?
At the bottom of the hour, Jimmie talks with Jesse Norris, head coach for Edgewood High School's football team. The two discuss Jesse's new proposal to revamp Wisconsin's football playoff qualification system. There's a lot of math involved, but it makes some sense!
Join Dom Salvia every afternoon from 4-6pm for news (some), humor (more), and great conversation (always)! Listen throughout the state of Wisconsin on the Civic Media network and worldwide on the Civic Media app. Call or text to join the fun at 855-752-4842.

Jimmie Kaska, the Civic Media Sports Editor, takes the reins as guest host for this hour-long show dedicated to all things Wisconsin. From the incredible attractions scattered across the state to the political landscape that shapes our school funding, there's a lot to explore.
First up, Jimmie chats with Logan Wroge from Travel Wisconsin. This state truly offers something for everyone, whether you're in the mood for a relaxing getaway or an exhilarating outdoor escapade.
Next, we turn to Mark Sommerhauser of the WI Policy Forum to discuss the unprecedented number of school referenda this election cycle. Almost half of Wisconsin's school districts have turned to referenda this year, with many simply trying to keep their doors open. What’s driving this funding crisis in our schools, and how can we work together as a state to guarantee a quality education for every student?

This Saturday is Small Business Saturday. Small businesses in Wisconsin employ over 1 million of our state's residents, and they are indispensable community partners. Jimmie talks with Anne Wiegman of Wisconsin Downtown Action Council about what to expect for Small Business Saturday. Check out local small businesses in your city for deals and special activities. Get involved locally. It's great CIVIC action!
Something else you can do to engage in your local civics - run for office! Even though we just finished one election (or was November 5th two years ago, I can't tell anymore), the next election will be here before you know it! If you're interested in running for local office, check out Jimmie's piece on the upcoming Spring Election.

Referenda Review: the lights are STAYING ON!
Coach K, Civic Media's own Jimmie Kaska, joins Dr. Tim to review how Wisconsin schools fared in the election. While we bemoan our loses at the national level and what that may mean for education, we celebrate Wisconsin's overwhelming support for our public schools. As Jimmie writes, Wisconsin school districts overwhelmingly passed both operational and facilities requests. This is huge! Wisconsinites across the state showed up and said "we care about public schools and we'll pay more for them!" And in the midst of processing a huge national loss, these bright spots matter. So for 20 minutes, enjoy the wins, and enjoy an update on school sports as well!

Refs on Referenda
Coach K, Civic Media's own Jimmie Kaska, joins Dr. Johnny to chop up school referenda. By November 5th's election, nearly half of Wisconsin's school districts will have gone to referendum to secure funding. We've talked plenty on BustED Pencils about school referenda and the struggles for schools to secure enough funding to keep the lights on. And as we'll keep saying, it is equally vital to maintain funding for the "extra"curricular school offerings. Coach K puts it very simply: funding on a referenda that goes to athletics yields community good.
