Bridging Divides and Fighting Authoritarianism (Hour 3)

In the third hour, Matt and Angela celebrate the courage and passion of Wisconsin legislators like Francesca Hong and Christian Phelps, who challenge both Republicans and Democrats to prioritize people over politics. Dave Zirin joins to discuss his new biography on Howard Zinn, emphasizing the importance of historical awareness in resisting authoritarianism. He critiques MLB's gambling ties and Pete Rose's Hall of Fame eligibility for moral inconsistency. Banding Together For Conservation In Green Bay (Hour 1)

May 8, 2025

White smoke has been seen at the Vatican, and we have a new Pope! Illinois native Cardinal Robert Prevost shall now be known as Pope Leo XIV. All signs point to a continuation of the late Pope Francis’s more progressive views.

Here in Wisconsin, we have some breaking news as well. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Democratic Elias Law Group is filing with the Wisconsin Supreme Court to reconsider the constitutionality of our state’s congressional districts. Nick Ramos, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, joins Todd in-studio to provide his take on this legal challenge.

At the bottom of the hour, we welcome State Representative Amaad Rivera-Wagner to the program! He proudly represents Green Bay, having previously served as Mayor Eric Genrich’s Chief of Staff. After briefly catching up on some of the great things going on in Green Bay since the NFL draft, Rep. Rivera-Wagner shifts to a more serious topic. DOGE cuts to the federal government have slashed AmeriCorps, the domestic version of the Peace Corps. Green Bay is home to Wisconsin’s first municipal branch of AmeriCorps, the Green Bay Conservation Corps. This organization was also defunded, and Rep. Rivera-Wagner is fighting to raise awareness and keep this program open. His efforts have been supported by people all across the political spectrum, keeping the GBCC open at least through August.

Weekly Best of Dom Salvia Show for Feb 8

February 8, 2025

Catch up on the best of this week's shows!

First, from Tuesday's second hour with Nick Ramos. Why has the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign filed an ethics complaint against Judge Brad Schimel?

Next, from Tuesday's first hour with Maggie Daun. The upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court election pits Judge Susan Crawford against Judge Brad Schimel. Maggie's choice for Judge Crawford is quite clear, but not because Maggie will only vote for a progressive-aligned candidate.

Then, from Thursday's first hour with Earl Ingram. This combined segment highlights what Wisconsin lawmakers are doing to protect us from the wreckage brought by President Trump's administration.

Finally, as we always end our shows, something good. From Monday's second hour with Harvey Kaye.

Impropriety- appearance and actuality (Hour 2)

February 4, 2025

Guest: Nick Ramos

Nick Ramos, executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, joins us to break down their formal ethics complaint against judge Brad Schimel. Schimel is also, of course, a candidate for Wisconsin's highest court. And he's been going around 'joking' about begging on his hands and knees for campaign support. Meaning money. He's 'joking' about begging for money. As a judge. In direct violation of Wisconsin's Supreme Court code of ethics. Nick joins us to discuss how and why WDC filed their complaint and what they hope to achieve with it. Beyond this apparent financial impropriety, Nick and Dom discuss another of Schimel's concerning behaviors- pre-judging cases that are likely to appear before Wisconsin's highest court. We're especially concerned with his already well established position on Wisconsin's 1849 abortion law.

We finish the hour turning to the once Proud Boys, you can call 'em the Broke Boys now. Or really you can call them anything except the Proud Boys, as they've lost ownership of their name in a bit of truly tasty just desserts.

Join Dom Salvia every afternoon from 4-6pm for news (some), humor (more), and great conversation (always)! Listen throughout the state of Wisconsin on the Civic Media network and worldwide on the Civic Media app. Call or text to join the fun at 855-752-4842.

Pro Democracy Radio

January 30, 2025

Guest: Nick Ramos

In hour two, John and Gordy, filling in for Maggie today, talk JD Vance, and some of the insane billionaires who helped put him in power Curtis Yarvin and Peter Theil. With a few cuts from Rachel Maddow, we learn why these guys have spared a chunk of change to do away with democracy. We head to the phones for a bit to chat with CJ about "the rest of the story," and why he's rooting for Trump during this flurry of executive orders, throwing the country into chaos. Later, the guys welcome in Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign Nick Ramos to chat about the importance of taking a stand in tumultuous times, even when we're not at risk - because someday we might be. Practically, this means the people now being abducted by ICE - including people who are US citizens. Wrapping up the show, we look to the future with Nick, talking about what the WDC is up to, and what you can do to help democracy.

Civic Media Spotlight for January 18th & 19th (Hour 1)

January 18, 2025

Kicking off the weekend, we recall Jane, Greg and Cal inviting Steven Arenzon, the owner of Wisconsin Knitcaps to the show to talk about the legacy of the company, the mission of what they do and why he just doesn't want to print anything with cussing! It is the relaunch of our Beyond The Cheese segment and he brought us custom made hats to celebrate!

Then, on the Chad Holmes Show is joined by Nick Ramos of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign after eight Wausau citizens filed an ethics complaint against Mayor Doug Diny for his actions with a voting drop box in September.

After that, on UpNorthNews Radio Pat is joined by Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Susan Crawford, currently serving as a Dane County judge, who is running against Scott Walker’s former attorney general Brad Schimel for a pivotal role on the state’s high court in the April 1 election. Crawford tells the show about her experience and takes issue with Schimel’s recent comment in support of the January 6 insurrectionists who launched a violent attack on the US Capitol.

Wrapping up the hour, Tim Slekar talks about multiple intelligences on the John & Gordy Show, and John and Kathryn give examples of how when they were kids, teachers allowed them to express learning in different ways, rather than a standardized test - and how that needs to be emphasized more now.
