‘Small’ Cuts with Big Impact (Hour 3)
In this week’s Climate Check, Melissa Baldauff talks about how some Republicans still want to cut the job creating programs contained in the Inflation Reduction Act. But even if they did, it would mean little for a bill that otherwise explodes the national debt. We’ll also check in with Civic Media’s Earl Ingram, covering stories in southeast Wisconsin and James Kelly, covering news in northwest Wisconsin.

Going Nuclear (Hour 3)
Chad Holmes will give us an update on spring sports and news stories he’s following in the Wausau area for Civic Media. And Melissa Baldauff helps us update the latest Trump administration efforts to kill clean energy progress, substantially increase nuclear power, and allow an oil rig executive sweeping powers over federal lands, without going through a US Senate confirmation.

Send Us a Voice Note! (Hour 1)
We open with a convenient new way for listeners to interact with their favorite shows with the Civic Media app. And we’ll examine new reporting about Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s conveniently timed stock sales, just prior to President Trump’s tariff details that sent markets crashing.

A New Round of Meet the DPW Candidates (Hour 3)
We’ll begin a new round of interviews for the three candidates hoping to succeed Ben Wikler as chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, starting with the guy who just received Wikler’s endorsement, Devin Remiker. (We’ll talk to Joe Zepecki on Thursday and William Garcia on Friday.) Melissa Baldauff has our weekly Climate Check segment. And James Kelly tells us what he’s working on for listeners to our Civic Media stations in western and northwest Wisconsin.

Wall Street Landlords (Hour 3)
Wisconsin isn’t the only place dealing with a shortage of affordable homes—and it’s also not the only place trying to confront one of the causes: hedge funds purchasing properties and converting them to rentals. It reduces the number of single-family homes available in an area, driving up prices for what remains. We’ll talk to state Sen. Sarah Keyeski about her bill, similar to proposals elsewhere, that seek to limit the degree to which Wall Street can be a landlord in Wisconsin.

Election Day… in the Islands (Hour 1)
Somewhere between serving as a news anchor in Eau Claire and a radio host in Chippewa Falls, Pat spent a brief stint as a TV reporter in the Cayman Islands. Wednesday was Election Day in his favorite piece of paradise, giving him a chance to reminisce about covering politics in a British Overseas Territory—and being denounced by members of Parliament as one of those nasty immigrants coming to “take our jobs.” Sound familiar?! Also: Sean Duffy is afraid of New York City. And Melissa Baldauff discusses a new study about the poor air quality in southeast Wisconsin.

Power Play For Power (Hour 3)
A new bill raises this point: should Wisconsin utilities get an advantage when it comes to NEW transmission line projects, or does it stifle competition? It’s a question that doesn’t cut neatly across party lines, as we’ll discuss in this week’s Climate Check with Melissa Baldauff.

Perplexing Priorities (Hour 1)
Once again, recent events offer us a study in contrasts. On one side, public officials introducing a bill to give women back the reproductive rights that have been taken from them recently On the other side, we have legislators pretending to “investigate” the UW System for embracing diversity, a Wisconsin military commander disciplined because someone turned around a photo of President Trump, and a president who’s destroyed so much of his own government that the FDA can no longer do regular safety inspections of milk.

Wetlands Welcomed (Hour 1)
It wasn’t that long ago that wetlands were considered a wasteland—and the people who urged that they be protected were mocked by politicians who joked about canoes unable to navigate dry culverts. Now, with a changing climate bringing monsoon rains with greater frequency, folks are understanding how flash flooding becomes much worse if nature’s sponges aren’t on the job. We’ll discuss how Wisconsin is now a bipartisan example to the rest of the nation in this week’s Climate Check.

Cuckoo for Conspiracies (Hour 1)
There appears to be a job requirement to serve as chair of the Wisconsin Assembly Elections Committee that you be willing to embrace and spread conspiracy theories—especially if they’re about the big, bad city of Milwaukee. We’ll have the latest chapter in efforts to undermine election integrity. And in our Climate Check report, a changing climate is going to require being proactive about conditions such as increased flash flooding. We’ll talk about local success stories.
