Author Laura Bird has some book recommendations that celebrate and promote a connection to nature—covering different genres and ages through books written by Wisconsinites and other Midwesterners. We’ll also check in with Civic Media friends John & Gordy, and Jane Matenaer.
Laura Bird recommends fiction novels by Andrew J. Graff "Raft of Stars" and "True North." For nonfiction she suggests "Sea of Grass: The Conquest, Ruin, and Redemption of Nature on the American Prairie," "Shelter and Storm: At Home in the Driftless" and "Where the Grass Still Sings: Stories of Insects and Interconnection." Bird also has books that are practical and engaging guides for maximizing your exposure to nature: "Time, Beauty, and Grief: A Hike Through Wisconsin’s State Parks" and "Great Nature Wisconsin: A Guide for Nature Immersion in WI." For kids she suggests picture book "The Wild Island" and her very own "Crossing the Pressure Line."
