With just days to go until the Spring election, State Supreme Court candidate Chris Taylor visited Eau Claire to energize voters.

During her visit to the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire on Monday, the liberal-backed Court of Appeals Judge highlighted her track record of her decisions being upheld on appeal and her commitment to protecting the rights of Wisconsinites to Chippewa Valley residents. She also noted this year’s race has been quieter than now-Justice Susan Crawford’s campaign last year without ideological control of the state’s highest court on the line, making it even more important to get voters engaged.

“I am doing a statewide tour to make sure that I’m reaching voters and letting them know that this very important State Supreme Court race is coming up,” she said. “It has never been more important in my lifetime to have a strong State Supreme Court that is protecting our rights, that is protecting our elections, our democracy, and standing up against the overreach of the federal government.”

Judge Taylor also shared her thoughts on the role the State Supreme Court can play in pushing back against policy changes at the federal level, including issues like accessing reproductive healthcare.

“We have in the state of Wisconsin our own constitution,” she said. “And the body that has the final say on what our state constitution says is the Wisconsin Supreme Court. So our constitution can be interpreted more broadly than the United States Supreme Court has interpreted the federal constitution. So as we see the U.S. Supreme Court trying to take our rights away and rolling back protections, our State Supreme Court can certainly interpret our state constitution as affording more protections.”

Judge Taylor will face off with conservative-backed and fellow Court of Appeals Judge Maria Lazar in the April 7th election.
