Wisconsin Rapids boys basketball has a new record

New record set in Rapids, Riverkings back at home. High School playoffs underway.

Gilbertson breaks record

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – For the second time since 2020, there is a new All-Time scoring leader for the Wisconsin Rapids Boys Basketball program.

On Tuesday, February 17, senior Brody Gilbertson needed 17 points to break the old record of 1,210 points.He got 22 against Chippewa Falls, helping Rapids defeat the Cardinals 71-66, but putting himself atop the standings.

Riverkings enter the final three home games

Just three games remain in the regular season for the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings after finishing the final weekend on the road with a 2-1 record.

The Riverkings swept Steele County with wins of 4-1 and 5-4, while losing to Northwest 4-2.

Rapids have just one game this weekend and will host Northwest on Friday, February 20 with the puck drop coming at 7:00pm.

High School playoffs hit stride

The Winter Sports season is wrapping up as playoff brackets and games have been announced and are being played.

Wisconsin Rapids Hockey saw its season end with a 7-1 loss to Eau Claire Memorial. Wrestling saw the State Individual Tournament field be set with five local Wrestlers going to the Kohl Center over February 26-28.

Wisconsin Rapids’ Jackson Freeman and Aspen Tritz will be competing in Division 1. Jacob Bertling and Fletcher Brock will represent Nekoosa/Port Edwards in Division 2.

Gavin Tritz will be the lone Assumption/Pacelli participant in Division 3.

Rapids wrestling will also be competing in the WIAA Division 1 Team Sectional. They are seeded fourth and will take on New Richmond in the six-team field at Marshfield on Feb 21.

Girls Basketball brackets have been announced and Assumption is the lone home team as they were seeded third and will take on Rosholt on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Port Edwards will be at Columbus Catholic. Nekoosa will play at Necedah, and Wisconsin Rapids will play at Eau Claire Memorial.

Boys Basketball brackets will be announced on Sunday, Feb 22.
