OSHKOSH, WI—(WISS)— While the entire nation seemed to be thinking about football and the Super Bowl last week, one city had basketball on its mind. The Oshkosh Area School District held a special ceremony to honor one of its own, Tyrese Haliburton, who has excelled on the basketball court.

Haliburton has become a household name in professional basketball, most recently as an Indiana Pacer. He’s an Olympic athlete. He’s a two-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA Third Team selection. Now, Haliburton can add that he’s the latest inductee in the Oshkosh North High School Hall of Fame.

Haliburton was honored in a ceremony at Oshkosh North last week. He’s a 2018 graduate of ONHS.

“ I made it to the NBA. That’s really cool. Been my dream my whole life. And I’m able to do that. And I hope that inspires you to chase your dreams and do what you want to do,” Haliburton said in his acceptance speech. “No matter what that is. That’s not just basketball, or sports, or a job. Whatever it is you want to do, it is possible! But it takes a lot of work to do it, and it’s worth it at the end!”

According to Wikipedia, Haliburton averaged 22.9 points per game his senior year, with 6.2 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 42 points over Kakauna High School. He was instrumental in Oshkosh North’s WIAA Division State Championship victory over Brookfield East High School that year.

Haliburton remains a dedicated supporter of Oshkosh, his hometown.
