
RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- The National Weather Service has extended an Extreme Cold Warning.
For Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Marquette counties the warning runs until 6 am Saturday morning. For Calumet, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago counties it is until 9 am Saturday morning.
After the warning ends Saturday morning a Cold Weather Advisory goes into effect for Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Marquette counties from 6 am to noon Saturday.
During the Extreme Cold Warning wind chills could reach 40 below zero with a few spots seeing a wind child of 45 below zero.
BITTER COLD SAFETY TIPS
Some safety suggestions as we deal with bitterly cold temperatures. For people dress in layers, limit your time outdoors, know the signs of hypothermia and frostbite, check on loved ones and neighbors, and bring pets inside.
For your home have enough fuel for heat, monitor your furnace, use space heaters with caution, check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and slow drip faucets to prevent pipe bursts.
Tips for your vehicle include keeping your gas tank at least half full, have a vehicle emergency kit that includes extra blankets, check tire pressure, check your battery, and notify family of travel plans.
