Funding for WisconsinEye, which is similar to C-SPAN offering transparency at the Wisconsin Capital, continues to be a source of contention at the capital.

According to Learfield, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said:

WisconsinEye is a valuable part of the work at the Capitol, but Democrats are trying to say that the media are irrelevant.

Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Finance, Sen. Howard Marklein, was a guest on WRCO’s Morning Show with Phil Nee.

He said that he feels it’s great for the public to see what goes on at the capital, but…after representatives from Wisconsin-Eye appeared in his office and explained themselves, he thinks there needs to be some changes.

Howard Marklein, Wisconsin State Senator 17th Senate District

Beloit Democrat, Representative Clinton Anderson told Learfield that he and his colleagues, along with members of the public, are being prohibited from recording committee hearings.

Anderson says he doesn’t have an issue with members of the public recording meetings, and that the need for legislators to do so is because of WisconsinEye being down. Credentialed members of the media are allowed to record inside the Capitol and says that provides transparency.

Reports say that WisconsinEye is currently undertaking fundraising in an effort to resume its coverage.
