Update to Article:

The name of the logger injured in a mishap Wednesday afternoon in rural Viroqua has been released. Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports logger Cole Scott Leis, 34 of Wilton, was injured in the incident. While cutting down a standing tree, he was injured when a different tree fell nearby and struck him in the head.  Leis was transported to Vernon Health, in Viroqua, by La Farge Area Ambulance and then transferred to Emplify Health by Gundersen in LaCrosse.

Original Article:

A logger was injured in a mishap Wednesday afternoon. Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports that at approximately 12:30p, the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center was notified of the incident that occurred on private property located on Brush Hollow Road, rural Viroqua.

While cutting down a standing tree, a professional logger was injured when a different tree fell nearby and struck him in the head.  This nearly spontaneous occurrence is just one of the many risks associated with the logging industry.

The injured man was transported to Vernon Health, in Viroqua, by La Farge Area Ambulance.

The logger was wearing a hard hat, likely reducing the extent of injury. Also at the scene with the Sheriff’s Office were the La Farge Fire Department and the Viola Fire Department.
