Whatever’s in the Fridge Skillet Surprise – its Cooking with Hank
Granny’s Backwoods “Whatever’s in the Fridge” Skillet Surprise
Serves 4 hungry cousins or 1 uncle named Randy
Ingredients
1 pound of mystery meat (hamburger, sausage, squirrel-lookin’ stuff… your call)
1 can of biscuits, flattened with a boot (or rolling pin if you’re fancy)
1 can of cream of “somethin’” soup
2 handfuls of shredded cheese (the kind that sticks together is best)
1 bell pepper (optional, veggies are suspicious)
1 onion, chopped roughly with your good pocketknife
1 tablespoon of butter or bacon grease (we ain’t picky)
Salt & pepper (or just more cheese, honestly)
Hot sauce to “wake the ancestors”
Directions
1. Fire Up the Skillet
Put that skillet on the stove and toss in the butter, bacon grease, or whatever slippery magic you have handy.
2. Brown the Mystery Meat
Cook it till it looks done and you trust it with your life decisions. Add onion and bell pepper. Stir like your cousin is coming to steal it.
3. Add the Soupy Goodness
Dump in the can of cream of somethin. If it says “mushroom” but you ain’t never seen a mushroom before, that’s okay.
4. Boot-Flatten Them Biscuits
Flatten them like they owe you money. Chop them up and toss ‘em in the skillet.
5. Cheese It Up
Add cheese until your heart says “that’s enough” and your doctor says “please stop.”
6. Simmer & Wait
Let it bubble on medium-low for 12–15 minutes — about the length of one good country song and one bad one.
7. Finish Like a Legend
Add hot sauce, say a prayer, and serve it up hot.
Serving Tips
Best eaten on a paper plate.
Pairs well with sweet tea or something stronger.
If it sticks to your ribs, you did it right.
If it sticks to the pan forever, that’s tomorrow’s dinner too.
