RICHLAND CENTER, WIS (WRCO / WRCE) – The Richland Center girls volleyball team won 3 sets to 2 over River Valley on Thursday night.

The match was a typical battle between the 2 schools with large momentum swings all the way through the 2 hour battle.  For the Hornets, it was the teams 3rd conference match in a row that went 5 sets and this was the first one that they were able to come out on top. Both teams are now 2-2 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference. Richland Center won the opener 25-19, before River Valley enjoyed a 25-15 win.

The Hornets survived the 3rd set with a 25-23 victory.  The Blackhawks won the 4th 25-17, and the Hornets built a large lead in the 3rd before holding on for a 15-10 win to take the match.

Senior Danica Pauls helped lead the way with 3 kills and an ace in the 5th set.  Sophomore Ella Clements had a key point to help the Hornets get over the top. Sophomore Brooklyn Stokes helped River Valley with an impressive 7 kills in the 3rd set and Junior Ella Myers set the tone with several key kills and impressive blocks.

River Valley won the JV 1 match 2-1 in the early contest in the River Valley high school gym.

Following Richland Center’s 3 sets to 2 win, they will play in the Baraboo tournament on Saturday.  River Valley will play Dodgeville and Platteville next week during Homecoming week for the Blackhawks.
