RICHLAND CENTER, WIS (WRCO / WRCE) – It’s National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, so it is a great time to think about overall wellness.

Allison Ewing has been helping patients find a better path to wellness for over nine years at The Richland Hospital and Clinics.

The program, called “Get Fit”, encompasses so much more than standard diet and exercise.

The “Get Fit” program at The Richland Hospital and Clinics is a weight management program led by Family Nurse Practitioner Allison Ewing, focusing on a holistic, whole-person approach to wellness for both children and adults

“When people come to see me, we’re already on a good path. Our priority, after assessment and labs, is setting realistic expectations,” she says.

Creating a shared level of accountability between what we can help with medically and what patients need to do also removes one of the barriers to success. “We talk openly about screen time, modeling good behaviors for our kids and ourselves, creating good sleep habits, and reasonable portion sizes, for example.” She also stresses the importance of making movement fun. “Dance, play, climb, explore! When kids enjoy being active, they build lifelong habits that support their health and happiness,” says Allison.

National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month is observed annually in September. It is a time to raise awareness about the issue of childhood obesity, promote healthy eating habits, and encourage physical activity among children.
