RIDGEWAY, Wis. (WRCO) – On Thursday, Sept. 4, at approximately 10:49 a.m., the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle collision and disturbance near the intersection of USH 18-151 and County Road HHH in the Town of Ridgeway.

Upon arrival, deputies identified the operator as Brian S. McConnell, age 60 of Ridgeway, Wis.  McConnell admitted to moving a barricade and entering a marked closed construction zone. During the incident, McConnell attempted to turn around within the active work area. Preliminary investigations show McConnell turning at a high rate of speed, nearly striking a worker standing in front of a parked construction semi. The semi was not in motion at the time.

McConnell’s vehicle subsequently rolled backward into the semi after he exited to confront workers.

Later that evening, McConnell was located by the Ridgeway Marshal Office, where he was taken into custody, and transported to the Iowa County Jail where he was booked on charges of 941.30(1) – First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety (Felony).

McConnell presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.  The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to respect all posted construction signage and road closures to ensure the safety of both motorists and construction workers.

Information for this article was gathered from an Iowa County press release.
