RICHLAND CENTER, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – The Richland County Campus Reconfiguration Committee met last night (Wednesday) to engage in discussion about the use of the Campus Redevelopment Grant Application with the goal of finalizing a plan for the funds and then submitting the application.

Proposed use of the $2 million in funds include:

a new bridge on the westside of the campus at a cost of $654,270,
Symons tennis court renovation at a cost of $150,000, a SEH Campus Development Project – $43,160 and SEH – Community Engagement Survey and Open House $4,950, a road from Hive Drive to Symons – $75,000, work on the parking lot at Symons costing $88,250, separate utilities – $5,500, a campus sidewalk next to the proposed new road – $25,000, demolition of the library and classroom – $220,000, a Symons HVAC System – $250,000, demolition of other bridge(s) and survey costs.

County Administrator, Tricia Clements, will move forward on the grant proposal.

CLOSURE OF THE CAMPUS

It was announced on November 22, 2022, that the University of Wisconsin–Platteville Richland branch campus would close on July 1, 2023, due to its declining enrollment, which was 64 in its final year.

Initially, there was a plan to make its classes be taught fully online. Ultimately, the campus was fully closed, and its students had to transfer to the Platteville campus or Baraboo campus to continue their education.

In 2023, the UWs stated “that no viable options existed” for the UW to maintain a presence on the Richland campus.
