VERONA, Wis (WRCO /WRCE) – The Arena Aces lost the Western Section Home Talent game at Verona 9-2 on Sunday, August 17. The game was much closer than the final score: it was tied at two in the bottom of the seventh before Verona erupted for three runs and added another four runs in the eighth.

James Rae led Verona, going three for five with five RBI. His bases clearing double in the seventh inning gave the Cavaliers the lead for good. Colby Davis was also three for five. Aiden Williams was the winning pitcher after working seven strong innings, and Riley Peterson pitched the last two innings.

The Home Talent league began in 1929, and Arena was one of the inaugural teams. This was the first time the team made it to a section championship game. Nate Jennings pitched the first four frames; Eli Alt worked three innings, and Eathan Wickman finished up from the mound in the eighth inning. Nate Jennings was two for four with a RBI. His hit in the fourth drove in Alt. Trey Schulte doubled and eventually scored on a balk in the fifth inning which tied the game at two. Zach Cady had a single for the Aces.

With the 9-2 win, Verona advances to represent the Western Section in the Home Talent final four round-robin tournament which begins on Sunday. They are now13-1 with yesterday’s win. Arena wrapped up the season at 9-5.
