Global rock band Coldplay just rolled through Madison as part of the Music of the Spheres World Tour, and they did more than just light up Camp Randall Stadium. The group left behind a powerful gift for the city’s young, aspiring musicians. They donated several keyboards to the Madison Area Music Association (MAMA). It’s a generous and heartfelt move arranged by Coldplay, FPC Live, and Live Nation to support a nonprofit dedicated to music education for kids across Dane County.

“Keyboards are something we always need,” MAMA Executive Director Dana Perry says. “So whether a classroom, teaching studio, or individual student who can’t afford to purchase their own instrument, we are honored to accept these donations and get these keyboards into the hands of those who can really use them.”

And while the keyboards haven’t been placed in young hands just yet, it will happen soon. And when it does, students who may otherwise never have had the chance to create music on professional-grade instruments will get the opportunity to be creative and realize how the power of music can change lives.

Meanwhile, Coldplay’s generosity aligns with similar efforts the band has made in other communities throughout their tour, by showing a consistent commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians. And it matches the goals of MAMA, too.

Why It Matters
  • Access for all: Musical instruments, especially keyboards, are often out of reach for many families. This donation breaks down a barrier that keeps kids from discovering their talents.
  • Planting seeds: The keyboards will soon be placed in classrooms and programs where it can spark creativity, build confidence, and maybe even launch a future artist’s journey.
  • Community inspiration: Coldplay’s quiet, thoughtful gift reminds everyone that real change doesn’t always happen under bright lights. It often begins with small, meaningful acts of kindness.

So, in the coming weeks, as local kids sit down at these keyboards for the very first time, they’ll be doing more than learning scales or writing songs. They’ll be picking up a torch passed to them by one of the world’s biggest bands. It’s a symbol that their voices matter, their creativity is valued, and that music truly can connect all of us.
