WISCONSIN (CIVIC MEDIA) – With the Independence Day holiday weekend fast approaching, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) urges motorists to slow down on Wisconsin roads and practice safe driving habits.

According to AAA, Wisconsinites will set a record with more than 1.47 million residents taking a road trip this holiday weekend. WisDOT expects the peak travel times to be as follows:

  • Wednesday, July 2 – 12 to 9 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 3 – 2 to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, July 4 – 12 to 7 p.m
  • Sunday, July 6 – 12 to 6 p.m.

“Know before you go” with 511 Wisconsin, 511wi.gov or the free 511 WI app, to stay aware of road conditions and view live traffic cameras on your route. Most road construction will pause over the holiday weekend to open as many lanes as possible.
