GRANT COUNTY, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – A hit and run was reported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department Saturday morning, June 28, at approximately 10:45 a.m.

The crash occurred on County Highway A, just east of Highway 129, in South Lancaster Township. The report stated that a dark colored SUV struck a bicyclist and continued driving west on County Highway A at a high rate of speed. Lancaster EMS was dispatched to the scene and Med Flight was notified due to the serious injuries suffered by the bicyclist.

The victim was transported to Grant Regional Health Center and then immediately transported to UW Hospital by Med Flight for further treatment of their injuries.

When deputies arrived on scene, they located parts from the offending vehicle. Deputies began to search the area for a dark colored SUV with damage to the passenger side and missing a passenger side mirror.

A short time later, Grant County Dispatch received a report of a disabled vehicle on County Highway E, approximately a mile east of Highway 61. Deputies responded to the scene and found a dark gray SUV parked along the road with a flat front passenger tire.

The vehicle also had damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle and was missing a passenger side mirror. When deputies made contact with the driver, 54-year-old John Goomey of Platteville, Goomey showed signs of impairment.

After a subsequent investigation, Goomey was taken into custody and booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury, and Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Harm.
