RICHLAND CENTER, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – Richland Center won 6-5 over Platteville in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night. The game was played at North Park in Richland Center. The Hornets lost just two weeks ago in Platteville by the same score and under similar circumstances.

Senior Jacob McDonnell pitched six innings with seven strike outs and walks, giving up just two hits. Freshman Fynn Lemke worked the seventh and gave up a hit while walking one and striking out two to get the win. He kept the game tied until the Hornets got the winning run. Trenton Mumm went the distance and suffered the loss for Platteville.

With two on base and one out in the seventh, Isaac Gald put the ball in play and Hillmen threw a wild ball to second base as Brady Dosch came around to score and made the final score 6-5. Dosch scored three of the Hornets’ six runs; Jacob McDonnell and Fynn Lemke each went two for three with a double. Richland Center had seven hits. Jonah Vorwald was on base three times and had one of Platteville’s three hits.

With the win, Richland Center is now 8-12 and 4-5 in the league. They will host Dodgeville Tuesday night to wrap up the regular season and then travel to Lodi to open the WIAA tournament on Thursday, May 29.  The loss knocked Platteville out of the first-place tie with Dodgeville falling to 6-3 in the league and 10-9 overall. They have a game against Edgewood Saturday, May 24 and will wrap up the league against Lancaster.
