RICHLAND CENTER, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – A group of Richland Center Intermediate School (RCIS) 4th grade students recently took a hands-on approach to learning about responsibility and community service. Many students were initially unfamiliar with the concept of community service, so they engaged in discussions about what it means to be responsible members of their community. They explored ways to give back to organizations that support people, animals, and the environment.

Inspired by examples of past community service projects, the students decided to take action themselves. They chose to support Ocooch Mountain Humane Society and Richland Area Rescue, two local animal welfare organizations. To make a meaningful impact, they organized a donation drive for pet food and supplies, while also planning a fundraising effort.

With creativity and teamwork, the students designed flyers and banners and sold paw print bracelets to their fellow students and staff at RCIS.

Their efforts paid off, raising an impressive $200. In addition, they collected several boxes filled with essential pet food and supplies to help animals in need.

The students extend a heartfelt “THANK YOU” to everyone who contributed to their project. Their hard work and dedication not only provided much-needed resources for local shelters but also demonstrated the power of young people making a difference in their community.
