MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (Civic Media) — Kohl’s Corp. announced Tuesday it is cutting approximately 10% of its corporate workforce. A statement from the Menomonee Falls based retailer says it’s an effort to improve efficiency and long-term profitability.

Kohl’s confirmed that more than half of the job reductions will come from eliminating open positions. The remainder will affect current employees at the corporate offices.

A company spokesperson stated, “Knowing the impact this has on our associates, we took this decision very seriously.” Affected employees have been informed and will receive severance packages.

The announcement follows Kohl’s recent decision to close 27 underperforming stores and its San Bernardino fulfillment center.

The exact number of layoffs isn’t known.
