OSHKOSH, WI- (WISS) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved death in Oshkosh.

Officials say Oshkosh Police received a 911 call about a stabbing on West 10th Avenue at about 11:10 pm. When officers arrived, they found a victim who had been stabbed outside. When they entered the home, they encountered the suspect, who was armed with a bladed weapon. The suspect failed to comply with orders to drop the weapon. One officer discharged a firearm, hitting the suspect.

While officers were performing lifesaving measures a second stabbing victim was found in the home. Both victims and the suspect were taken to the hospital, where the suspect was pronounced dead.

Involved law enforcement officers were wearing body cameras. They are on administrative leave, per agency policies.

DCI is leading this investigation of the officer-involved death, assisted by a DCI Crime Response Specialist, Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory, and Wisconsin State Patrol. All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.

DCI continues to review the evidence and determine the facts of this incident. When the investigation concludes, it will turn over the investigative reports to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s office.
