Wisconsin Invests $1 Million to Combat Teacher Shortages in High-Need Areas

MADISON, Wis (Civic Media) — There’s hope new grant money will help find educators in the state. Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced $1 million in grants for teacher training and recruitment. The funds are being targeted towards areas most impacted from shortages.

The grants, part of the Expanded Wisconsin Fast Forward program, offer up to $500,000 to nonprofit organizations for recruiting, training, and licensing teachers to meet state guidelines for qualifying school districts.

“Our educators work every day to do what’s best for our kids, and it’s vital we continue to recruit and train talented workers in our education workforce,” Evers said.

The program, which has previously funded two rounds of awards benefiting 10 schools, aims to address challenges posed by demographic shifts and other trends in classrooms.

A statement says the initiative is part of Evers’ broader efforts to strengthen Wisconsin’s educator pipeline, including a recently announced teacher apprenticeship pilot program.
