WISCONSIN (Civic Media) – Incumbent Republican Robin Vos has been called the winner of the race for the 33rd Assembly District in Wisconsin.

The Associated Press made the call Wednesday morning.

The Republican Party was favored in this district going into the election, according to CNalysis. The district was considered solid Republican with a projected margin of 28 points.

Vos, who is the Assembly Speaker, is the longest-serving Speaker in history. He was first elected to the Assembly in 2004. Vos is co-chair of three committees, chair of the Committee on Assembly Organization, and is also on the Joint Legislative Council. He was drawn out of the 63rd District he currently represents.

Vos was going to face a challenge in the Republican primary from Andrew Cegielski, but he dropped out of the race less than two weeks after announcing his candidacy. Cegielski received 30% of the vote in the primary.

Vos defeated Democratic challenger Alan Kupsik, who ran a grassroots campaign.

The 33rd Assembly District covers parts of Walworth and Racine counties in southeastern Wisconsin.
