Mark Pocan Snags Reelection To 2nd Congressional District

U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., has defeated Republican Erik Olsen to win another term representing Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District.

The Associated Press called the race for Pocan at about 9:24 p.m. By 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, vote tallies showed he received 320,283 votes, or 70.1 percent, compared to Olsen’s 136,349 votes, or 29.9 percent, with about 99 percent of precincts reporting.

The 2nd Congressional District consists of a large portion of southern Wisconsin, including the cities of Madison, Baraboo and Dodgeville.

Pocan won the 2nd Congressional District seat in 2012, succeeding Tammy Baldwin, who left the U.S. House after she was elected to the U.S. Senate. He was previously reelected five times and serves on the House Committee on Appropriations. Born and raised in Kenosha, Pocan is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He had previously served in the state Assembly for 14 years. He is a Town of Vermont resident, where he lives with his husband. 

Olsen is an attorney who specializes in constitutional law. He grew up in Madison and still lives in Madison with his wife, Sarah. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School and earned a master’s degree at UW-Madison.
