OSHKOSH, WI – (WISS) – University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Chancellor Andrew Leavitt took to his blog to announce his plans to resign his position in June. Leavitt was appointed to the position in 2014.  He will continue as a faculty member and professor of Chemistry.

UWO has faced declining enrollment and budget challenges in the past few years. In August UWO faculty members expressed “No confidence” in Leavitt for the way he handled the school’s financial crises.

In his blog post, Leavitt said, “I take pride in my service. I have been driven to enhance the experience of students and, working with everyone at UWO, set the best course for the institution through the steady headwinds challenging higher education.”

Before leaving his position on June 30, 2025, Leavitt says he still has things he wants to accomplish.

“I am also committed to helping us earn state funding to modernize university facilities and infrastructure, including a revitalized library, as prioritized by the Board of Regents,” said Leavitt. “These goals will be my focus over the next eight months. They are geared toward achieving one outcome: a strong, sustainable UWO.”

The leadership of the University of Wisconsin system reacted to Leavitt’s resignation announcement.

Jay Rothman, UW President said, “Since his first day as chancellor, Chancellor Leavitt has embraced the challenges that come with leadership. He is passionate about ensuring UW Oshkosh is positioned for a vibrant future, knowing its success is vital to the region and our state.”

UWs Board of Regents President Amy B. Bogost said, “Chancellor Leavitt has been committed to providing a top-notch student experience that emphasizes teaching and learning – in the classroom, in the workplace, and in the community. We are grateful for his service to UW Oshkosh, its campus community, and the entire state.”
