Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – Mayor Zacher credits a list of people and businesses that helped along the process of the shutting down and then eventual sale of the old mill. He wishes the best of luck to the new owners, CRG, as they move forward with the property as an industrial park. The future of the site sounds like it will provide many new jobs to the community, and cooperation with the local technical college. Mayor Zacher also voiced his empathy, and heartfelt gratitude towards the members of the community that invested so much of themselves to the efforts of the mill during its thriving past. During his interview on Mid-Day magazine he encouraged citizens to remain optimistic about the site and the future it can help build for the area.

The topic of the railroad relocation project also was discussed, and Mayor Zacher said that they are in the planning phase of relocation of the railroad crossing at the intersection of Highways 74 and 34 on the west side of town. He stated that he has gotten a few letters of support that are needed to further the project, and that he is doing what he can to move things along.

In the last minutes of the interview Matt Zacher discusses the end of the project that was being done on Lincoln Street. The project took all summer long, and resulted in a wider roadway, increased parking, and improved walkways. The work spanned the length of Lincoln Street from East Grand Avenue to Highway 13.

You can hear the full interview with Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Matt Zacher on Mid-Day Magazine from September 18, 2024 on our website.
