MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – People attending football games at Camp Randall Stadium will soon have more choices for beverages as they take in Badgers games.

Wisconsin’s athletics department announced Monday that beginning with football’s season opener on Aug. 30, they will begin selling alcoholic beverages to people in general seating.

The announcement also said that sales will begin at the UW Field House this fall, which houses the school’s volleyball and wrestling programs.

Beginning this season, Wisconsin Athletics will begin selling beer, wine, and pre-packaged alcoholic products beverages in the general seating areas at Camp Randall Stadium and the Field House.

Alcohol was already available to people in general seating at Badgers hockey and basketball games.

“We were pleased with how well alcohol sales went during the basketball and hockey seasons at the Kohl Center and LaBahn Arena last season and we expect much of the same at Camp Randall this fall,” Chris McIntosh, Wisconsin Director of Athletics, said.

People attending games will only be allowed two drink purchases at a time, and anyone who appears to be under the age of 40 will have to show identification to buy alcohol.

Wisconsin athletics said that part of the sales of alcoholic beverages will be used to help campus efforts for promoting student wellness and responsible use of alcohol.

The UW Police Department will be increasing staffing for games as well.

“The option to purchase alcohol is common at collegiate athletic venues all over the country and we’re glad that we can now offer it as part of the fan experience at Camp Randall,” Jennifer Mnookin, UW-Madison Chancellor, said. “I appreciate the work our athletic and administrative teams have done to put together a plan that balances this opportunity with public safety.”

Wisconsin becomes the 16th school (of 18) in the Big Ten to sell alcohol in its home stadium’s general seating area.

Wisconsin football’s season kicks off on Aug. 30. The Badgers will open training camp at UW-Platteville later this month.
