Kenosha’s Historic Beach House Reopens for Summer Season

KENOSHA, Wis. (WRJN) – An iconic lakefront facility in Kenosha is being revived just in time for summer. The historic Kenosha Beach House on Simmons Island will be fully operational for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend after undergoing renovations in 2019.

The 1934 Tudor Revival structure will offer a variety of amenities and activities for beachgoers. Concession foods, healthy snacks, beverages, and a beer garden will be available on-site. Visitors can also purchase beach essentials like sunscreen, toys, and apparel at the gift shop.

Recreational offerings include bike and beach game rentals, live music, beach bonfires, and exercise classes held right on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan. A calendar of events will be posted on the Beach House website.

The Beach House aims to revitalize the Simmons Island area by tying together popular recreational hotspots. Lakeshore Pedal Tours will run group bike rides from the facility, while the Kenosha Community Sailing Center offers watercraft rentals nearby in July and August.

The beach and parking are free to the public, with the Beach House open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for concessions and retail. The beer garden will operate from noon to 10 p.m. Bathrooms have also been refurbished.

It’s believed the Beach House hasn’t been regularly open since the 1990s, hosting only occasional pop-up events in recent decades. The building is registered as a protected historical site after its art deco design.
