Peregrine Falcon Chicks to be Banded at Racine County Courthouse

RACINE, Wis (WRJN) – If you are looking for the chicks on the camera, they’re inside the courthouse. A camera that’s been run by Racine County atop the courthouse has been focused on peregrine falcon eggs. They started to hatch May 3rd, with 3 of them seen huddled together on camera last week. Today, in an effort to keep the falcon population healthy, they’ll be banded inside the courthouse.

The banding has turned into an annual event, with a statement from Racine County saying Greg Septon of the Peregrine Falcon Recovery Program will attach a tracker to the chicks today in the Racine County Courthouse, 730 Wisconsin Ave. The process involves attaching small piece of plastic to the birds’ leg, which allows officials to observe migration patterns and life spans.

The banding will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, in the conference room (Room 151) located on the first floor of the courthouse. The banding is open to visitors and the media.

Those interest should enter on the east side of the courthouse, where you will go through security, turn left, and enter Room 151.
