Glendale, Wis (Civic Media) – In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, 8th grade student Acie Holland III prevented a potential tragedy when he took control of a school bus after the driver experienced a medical emergency on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

The incident took place on school bus route 207 as it was getting students home. The driver suddenly lost consciousness, causing the bus to veer into the oncoming lane. Thanks to Acie’s heroic actions, disaster was averted.

Recognizing that the driver was not responsive, Acie moved the driver’s foot off the gas pedal, applied the brake, and parked the bus safely on the side of the road. The 8th grader then called 911 and started to calm the other kids on the bus, some pretty young. He told the other children to call their parents if they could and got his grandmother, a nurse, on the phone.

The driver eventually regained consciousness and got on the radio with dispatch. Riteway sent a safety team and another driver to complete the route.

A statement says The Glen Hills school community, along with the Glendale-River Hills School District, is immensely proud of Acie’s heroic actions. They say his compassion and leadership was taken to the next level on his bus ride home yesterday.
