The Duluth Transit Authority has announced it will be scaling back its weekend bus service starting on February 18th.

According to Duluth Transit Authority officials, the changes made to the weekend bus service are meant to maintain continuity of service and give them an opportunity to recruit and train more drivers while keeping work schedules manageable for their current employees.

Beginning on February 18th, service will look more like expanded holiday service. There will be no blue line, 106, 106, or 113 routes, which will be covered mostly by the 103 line. The green line will switch from service every 20 minutes to every 30 minutes and the 106 Kenwood area will be covered by either the 105 or 112 bus routes.

According to a Northern News Now report, Duluth Transit Authority General Manager Rod Fournier expressed his understanding at the challenges the changes to the weekend travel schedule could pose, saying “We understand that these changes can present a challenge for folks with weekend travel schedules and want to assure the public we are aiming for these changes to be temporary.” A timeline for when normal service could resume was not given, but officials say their focus is on adding more drivers to make that service return possible.

In an effort to spread awareness of the new bus service changes, paper schedules will be available at the Duluth Transportation Center and other hubs, and transit apps will reflect the changes to service starting on February 18th. An online version of the schedule changes can be found on the Duluth Transit Authority website.
